17 Useful Wordpress SEO and other plugins
Thanks for Dropping By! I'd love to learn more about you, so why don't you join my MyBlogLog Community and say "Hi"?
- All in One SEO Pack - This is an absolutely vital plugin for every blog that you have. This allows you to change your Title, description and keyword metatags on each blog post to make them unique, as well as to make a default home page title and description. I credit this plugin with about 30% of the credit for my rankings on some of my keywords.
- AutoMeta - This tag kind of conflicts with the All-in-one SEO packplugin, as it automatically creates the titles and descriptions. I still have to see how this works with All-in-One SEO pack
- Auto Social - This is an awesome tool that automatically tags your post at del.icio.us! (If only it would have automatic posting to multiple sites, with the option to randomly - or by topic to post to different users, that would freakin rock!
- bsuite - this is a very basic analytics tool. It does some simple parsing of your the IP data, but I like it alot. I can just look at it in a second as I login to my site, and see how many page loads I’ve got.
- Bunny’s Technorati Tags - This is an awesome tool which I use to create technorati tags for my blog
- cforms II - this allows you to create forms on your site. I used it on my consulting page to add a submission form. There are simpler contact plugins for wordpress, but (I found this one first
and ) I like the customization available with this plugin. - FeedBurner FeedSmith - this is a must have plugin for anyone running a blog. Feedburner works with every RSS standard (read simple), and has some great stats.
- Google Analytics - C’mon, who doesn’t want to have google analytics on their blog??! Truth is, with Feedburner stats, you don’t really need the google analytics plugin, but it’s cool anyways
- Google Sitemaps - as we all know, having a sitemap is important for SEO This one automatically builds a sitemap for Google. The site appears to be down at the time of reading, here is an alternate one.
- Gregarious - this is the plugin that adds the digg button to my posts. Weirdly enough, it’s supposed to add reddit and share-this tags as well, which it doesn’t seem to do. Unfortunate. It also doesn’t have sphinn setup (digg for Search Marketing. Note to self: get more involved in the sphinn community.)
- MyBlogLog Widget - great to add. You get to see anyone who visited your blog that is signed into mybloglog. Mybloglog is probably one of the only social networks that magically has their profiles SEO optimized. I used to rank for westcoastmarketing on my mybloglog profile. I’ve since totally lost ranking on that, but I still am ranking number one for “west coast marketing blog” with the mybloglog profile. (I should change it to my main keywords!) Being that this is true, it is very important to build a mybloglog community… these are real links, and they are free. Not to say that they are going to get you extremely far, but they are free IBL’s to a page that is linking in to you. (If you want to be real cheap, once you get thousands of people as contacts, you can message yourself, that way your link is there to your blog with your chosen keywords!)
- Post Schedule Ping Optimizer -This is an interesting plugin by an “internet marketer”. It makes sure that your wordpress blog doesn’t ping the different RSS and Wordpress directories too many times to be blacklisted.
- Post Teaser - This allows you to place only the first paragraph of the blog on the main page. I would theorize that this would reduce any potential duplicate content punishment on your blog. Without this post, your main page would get ranked for the content you are creating, while your new post is considered duplicate content until it gets moved to page two of your blog. Meanwhile, it’s already been sent to Google’s supplementary index. (Just a theory - no proof).
- What Would Seth Godin Do - This is a very cool plugin. It adds a custom message to your blog for any new visitor. If you are a new visitor, you will see my message to sign up to my mybloglog page. (I should be putting in the link to my RSS feed.)
- WordPress Database Backup - I Don’t really use this plugin, although I have it activated. I should
- WP-SphinnIt - Unfortunately, the gregarious plugin doesn’t have anything for sphinn, and the share this link isn’t so great, so I had to get this sphinn plugin. I love it!
- NoFollow Free - I just realized I hadn’t had this activated, and that all of the people that took the time to comment on my blog weren’t getting appropriate “credit”. I’ve since taken that back. However, I’m going back and forth about putting the minimum to remove the nofollow at 2 comments on the blog… just to encourage you to come back and comment
OK, you can cheat, and comment on one of my older posts! - BayRSS - ($37) this is a must for anyone who wants to make money off of affiliate marketing. I don’t use it on my current site, because this is a professional blog, and therefore, I don’t want to crowd it with affiliate plugs and send people off of my site… so it stays off. (You would think that I would love to just use this and do reviews, but I’m just too busy with clients and projects these days!)
Alright, Let’s say you are too lazy to go to each URL, and download each plugin, I have a little solution for you. I’ve zipped all of the plugins up (this is from my plugins folder on my site, and has a number more plugins that I don’t have setup right now!), and uploaded them.
Enjoyed my blog post?
1. Post a comment below about what plugins you use? Which of the above is good / bad. Remember, I have the “no-follow” plugin setup, so you get full credit from this blog post to you!
2. Create a post on your own blog referencing this blog post, and link back to this post. All of the linking blogs automatically get credit. Plus, I’ll be happy to go over to your blog and see what you have cranking!
