Get Rid Of Duplicate Content on your Blog – Gain Ranking

Thanks for Dropping By! I'd love to learn more about you, so why don't you join my MyBlogLog Community and say "Hi"?

Two weeks ago I went to a conference put on by Jeremy and Anik from PPC Classroom. It was a great networking opportunity. I bumped into Rian Brooklyn, who mentioned an issue of having duplicate content on your home page.

If you have Wordpress in default mode, then you have all of the contents of your first couple of posts on your home page, which makes those pages duplicate content. Not a good thing.

So I looked at how my site is indexed in Google. It wasn’t pretty. Almost none of my individual posts were indexed. Instead, only my categories were indexed. e.g. aboutresultsmarketing.com/marketing_blog/category/google/.

So I’ve just went out and got a plugin that puts only the first couple of paragraphs on the index page – this way there is no duplicate content from the main page to the post. I’d suggest post-teaser.

StumbleUpon It!

We’ll have to trade a list of recommended plugins. I have this one is use, but I’m sure there are some good ones I dont know about.

The other problem I’ve noticed, is using the Seth Godin plugin, that gets indexed as your description to most posts instead of any meta data you add manually. Not sure how to fix that.

I use two plugins – plus Seth Godin’s Plugin… I use All in one SEO Pack and also Autometa. Between these two I’m covered pretty much, so that i can insert the title and Description that I want. Tell me how it goes.

One of these days I’ll have to do a post about the plugins I use.
